3 weeks left!

I leave in less than 3 weeks!  I could not be more ready to go than I am right now (except for all the supplies/clothes I have yet to buy)!  Vaccines are done, malaria medication ready, flights bought, and now just preparing my heart to serve.

Can I just express the sheer excitement of making my dream trip a reality?  People always have places they want to go see, people they want to see, things they want to accomplish.  These items sit on a list, get talked about, but rarely, if ever, get done.  I have played with the idea of going to Africa for a few years now, but like many others I never thought it would actually happen.  An opportunity presented itself and I had the choice to either take that step and commit or sit back with the excuse/reason of not being able to afford it (reality).  Dreams are scary because they seem impossible and so far-fetched.  At the time it seemed impulsive to commit to a trip that I had absolutely NO money for...but in hindsight I realize that I was just chasing a dream of mine regardless of the circumstances.  I prayed about it for a few days and knew that God would provide if I was meant to go serve the people of South Sudan.  I chose to give this trip completely to Him because I had no means, aside from the passion/desire, to go.  Guess what?  He showed and gave support for this trip through all of my family and friends!

My fundraising goal was $3500 and I can now say that I have surpassed this goal by $400.  My new total is $3900.  All of you have blessed me beyond belief.  Your generosity and support have showed me what wonderful family and friends I have in this life.  It truly is humbling.  So I thank each and every one of you for sending me to Africa!

Like I said earlier...I'm ready to go.  I want to live these people's lives and experience utmost poverty.  I want to hold crying babies, clean wounds, comfort mothers, share the message of Christ with kids, save lives with medication, prepare food for everyone.  I'm ready to serve in any way I can.  Of course it would have been nice to spend my 4 week summer along the beach relaxing or at work earning money like I would have normally done.  Instead I am choosing to spend other people's money to go live in poverty for 4 weeks.  If I can at least impact one person's life...it will be all worth it :)

This will be my last post before I leave on June 17th.  I still need to buy supplies and clothes to take over there so help would be appreciated please :)   I will be closing my fundraiser on June 15th so if anybody would still like to donate you still have 2 weeks!  Check or online as usual!

If you would like to contact me before/during/after the trip my email address is: pilarmckay@gmail.com.  I'm not sure what the communication will be once in South Sudan...but I love getting emails/letters :)

To end, this is a song that came on the other day while I was running and it just got me excited!  Those who are techno/dance/electronic music fans might like it:)

God bless!
